Things to do in Woodstock
Welcome to Woodstock, known as “The Dairy Capital of Canada", and home to quirky “Cowapolooza,” a fun summer music festival, as well as Cheese Fest, taking advantage of local artisanal cheese makers’ talents. There are even more food-focused events and shops on offer: you can pick your own fruits and veggies at Thames River Melons, or stop by the Farmer’s Market at the Woodstock Fairgrounds, next door to Gateway Casinos Woodstock. Oxford County’s first craft brewery, Upper Thames Brewing Company, is worth a visit for its brews, food, and tours. For a unique shopping experience, stop by the One-of-a-kind Antique Mall, and speaking of all things old, be sure to stroll Historic Museum Square, home to Theatre Woodstock, Woodstock Museum, and the Woodstock Art Gallery. Those who prefer outdoor pursuits won’t be disappointed with the Pittock Conservation and Reservoir, with its large network of trails, perfect for bird watching. Closer to downtown, Southside Park is the town’s largest park, home to the Veteran’s Memorial Garden, a band shell, and lots of space to picnic.

My father has lived at Oxford Gardens for about 1.5 years, and we have been very happy with the wonderful staff care, and attractive location. In preparing for his move to Toronto to be closer to family, the staff facilitating his move at his new residence wrote that "[t]he team at Chartwell were extremely prompt and helpful and I am so impressed and grateful for their efforts. They deserve a great review as they were lovely to work with! 😊" Thanks to all the staff for their care.

My Mom moved to Oxford Garden in August 2011 until she relocated to long term care this year. If her health had not deteriorated she would still be at the Gardens enjoying the independence that this residence offers. She loved so many aspects of her adopted home. To name a few in no particular order--her quiet and comfortable patio apartment; the peace of mind she/we as her family had knowing that staff were always close at hand if needed; the friendliness of all staff ...so gracious and willing to take time to chat; the many friends made at the Gardens, oftentimes during the variety of social activities that she was welcomed to participate in; the pleasant surroundings, both inside and out; the inner courtyard gardens that were so easy for Mom to access so she could enjoy quiet walks ......Read more

Both my parents were residents of Oxford Gardens unfortunately my father passed away a few years ago and my mother had to go to a nursing home as she needed more care than a retirement home could provide. We were really disappointed that my mother couldn’t return to Oxford Gardens as we couldn’t ask for better care from the staff. I can’t say enough about the caring and attentive staff that bend over backwards to help you and your family. You are always greeted with a smile, the staff are approachable with any and all problems you have. If you are looking for a excellent retirement home Oxford Gardens is the place for you and will give you peace of mind knowing your family member is well taken care of at Oxford Gardens.

I help transition (support, organize and move manage ) Seniors into a wide variety of retirement villages and condos, dementia care homes, long term and assisted care facilities as well as respite and senior housing. Oxford Gardens is simply excellent. I highly recommend it for both the facilities and the staff. The suites are a great size to accomodate the senior's current furniture as well as selected treasures! The ability to customize and decorate allows the new residents feel at home right away. Jeff Rikley and his team have a true heart for caring for seniors. I have been at Oxford Gardens MANY times. I am not family, no one needs to 'impress' me.... I have witnessed many acts of patience, kindness, humour and support for the residents. The families that I follow up with after movin...Read more
